Sunday, November 21st, 2010Booting Linux From A Flash Drive For File Recovery
Saturday, October 23rd, 2010We are here? to talk about some interesting things that can be technology? to? do with a USB flash drive. Today’s topic be? focuses on the Linux operating system boot from a USB memory. The goal to boot Linux from a USB drive, at least prop? Site of this guide? To? to recover files from a broken install the Windows operating system or any other OS for that matter. Tambi?, You can run virus distribution? N Linux safely without infecting other computer or having to boot the infected PC.
? Qu? necessary:
* A USB flash drive anywhere from 512 MB to 2 GB (depending on the distro) * A motherboard can boot from a USB device. * And about 15 minutes m? S? Download time.
Software:
* La? Last version? N Stable UNetbootin
Step 1: Prepare the unit? USB
Once you have all the supplies to pull together and connect the USB drive and backup all files stored on your disk.
Step 2: Install the USB port
UNetbootin implementation and select the following:
1. Use the first button? N “implement.” This download? and the installer? autom? cally, the distribution? n you want. 2. Choose SystemRescueCd. We’re going with this because? ? F? Easy NTFS file system driver to avoid mixing of customization? No additional? required. 3. A continuation? N, select your flash drive. NOTE: coldness, select the unit? flash and not participate? No Windows or participation? No primary, because if it does, then destroy? currently installed operating system. 4. By? Finally, click “OK.”
UNetbootin to select the options shown in the image source located at the link at the bottom of this article? Ass.
Step 3: Configuration? No BIOS
We will have to configure the unit from USB memory. To this end, the mother will have? the first tab? support this functionality? and the second be? to do some “config? n.
1. Restart the computer and press “F2? O”, depending on the motherboard to enter the BIOS configuration? N. 2. Look for the section? N called the boot sequence, or denomination? N the same way. This sometimes stored in a section? n separately as Advanced BIOS Features, or the like. 3. Move strange USB ble or the top of the list. If you do not see these options in the list, m? s likely your motherboard does not support USB boot. check Google for m? s information? No respect. 4. Restart your computer with the drive plugged in
Step 4: From Linux
Let’s start with the l? Command line of this guide? A. There are options to load an interface gr? Chart for those who tremble at the CLI. I have to warm even though the S-command line? much more? s? r? request and f? cyl.
1. Once the team enters the post can? S see the bootloader screen. Go to “VMLinuz64″ and press enter.
Next? S of a series of goods and m? S likely in the display, not red? system “root @ ra? sysresccd z /%.” This show? To? Success.
Step 5: Copying files from a partition? No Windows on an external hard drive.
To do this, you will need? outside help to move files that are ready to receive data. ? Tambi? N can use the USB stick? was started of course, if c ‘? enough space in it.
1. First you? need to identify our unity?. Suppose you have two storage devices connected in a single flash unit and the other windows on the hard disk. Run the following command:
fdisk-l | less
This command will show? all storage devices in the system. Use the arrow up and down? to navigate through the exit as you can? be m? s? much of the screen. My output from this command? as follows:
Disk / dev / sda: 160. 0 GB, 160 billion bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors / track, 19452 cylinders
Unity? = Cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk ID: 0xd0f4738c
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/ Dev/sda1 * 1 19451 156240126 7 HPFS / NTFS
Disk / dev / sdb: 2085 MB, 2085617.664000 bytes
2 heads, 63 sectors / track, 32329 cylinders
Unity? = Cylinders of 126 * 512 = 64,512 bytes
Disk ID: 0×00502bcd
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/ Dev/sdb1 * 1 32330 2036720 6 FAT16
The device? 160 GB participate? N NTFS. Know the two bits of information? No you can? have a hip? thesis and say / dev / sda? our Windows devices.
NOTE: To exit this screen, press “q”.
2. Windows install disc so you can access the files in? L. Run the mount command to continuation? N:
mount / dev / sda / mnt / windows
NOTE:? need to replace “/ dev / sda” with the device in the output of fdisk-l. E ‘probable? which are the same.
3. Let’s see if we put the device right now. Run:
ls / mnt / windows
This command lists? files and folders in a directory. If you see the tell tale Program Files directory and Windows? installed correctly.
4. Out for our backup device. Plug it in and wait a few seconds and then run the fdisk command again:
fdisk-l
or
cat / proc / partitions
You should see the two devices you have seen? Last time and now duty? be the new?. Match the size or your device and enter the location? N of the m? S probably / dev / sdc.
Connect this device to the backup folder pre-made with the mount command again:
mount / dev / sdb / mnt / backup
5. Now? time to copy things from the old disk to disk backup for Windows.
To copy the entire disk to disk backup for Windows to run the following command:
cp-R / mnt / windows / / * / mnt backup / YOUR_FOLDER_NAME
If you think of a single copy of the file type the full path and continuation? No full destination path.
Learn m? S control? ? Useful:
* Sometimes, a virus has infected the first bit of c? Say your system is running in the MBR (Master Boot Record). Fortunately, we can clean it with relative ease? in linux. Run:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb bs=512 count=1
Remember to replace “/ dev / sdb” with the device and clean, because if you miss the evil that you may have some problems.
* Maybe you do not have an external device to do things, but have another computer with a network share. Well we’re going to mount a network share to copy files? L. Create a mount point:
mkdir / mnt / network
Place components:
mount-t smbfs / / computername / folder / mnt / network name-o = user1, password? a = mypasshere
Now? can copy and move files on the network share as any other directory.
To mount a share without using password? As:
mount-t smbfs / / computername / folder / mnt / network
To pr? Maximum.

Running Linux Commands from a Linux Desktop – Overview
Friday, August 20th, 2010
The way you run Linux commands from the desktop, is to open a Linux terminal emulation window. This is a window that opens on the Linux desktop and gives you a Linux command line prompt. At the Linux command prompt, you run Linux commands to do Linux system administration tasks, like create…
The Pathway to Linux Domination – Where Do We Go From Here?
Sunday, July 18th, 2010Maybe domination is too strong a word. Maybe not. The market conditions for Linux are as favorable as they have ever done. Apple and Microsoft have weaknesses that are evident, or will soon be revealed.
The public is becoming more familiar with technology in general, and beginning to understand your options. There are some things that hinder the adoption of public opinion on the operating system, in my opinion. We deal with more opportunities for Linux and weaknesses that can and do slow its adoption as a mainstream operating system.
Let’s start with the environment: Microsoft is really wrong with Vista. I mean bad. They made an operating system that has closed all but the new PC market. Therefore, racks like a baby every time you need to install a program or download something, or synchronize your MP3 player. The business market will not touch it. Now, they hired Jerry Seinfeld to solve everything. Someone has to say that just because idolizes Superman, does not mean that he is Superman. Microsoft looks tired. You should probably just release an operating system called XPlus (for the uninitiated, it would be XP Service Pack 4).
Apple gaining market share and shoot at Microsoft, now worth more than Google. There are problems encountered along the path of growth. Apple has always had security and the fact that you do not need anti-virus software for their systems. My professor of computer science (in thousands of years) told me that there was no need for a simple reason: Cookies (known to the general public as “hackers”) was not very profitable to crush a MAC. The adoption rate was too low. Now that the adoption rate has increased the possibility of vicious attack fanboys bragadocious is almost irresistible. What better way to humiliate people arrogant, artistic?
Then there is the fact that Microsoft seems to be a good grandfather when it comes to openness. Steve Jobs keeps his cards close to chest ridiculous. While this may not annoy users often have the nerves of those who want total control of your system. Apple has entered Microsoft’s DRM, and has recently criticized by the invisible software updates. Does not take long for adventurers to download another OS and find other programs to meet your needs.
Linux has come a long way because of an idea of your operating system: Ubuntu. Talk all you want about Debian, Fedora and SUSE are pure nectar, Genuine Linux. Canonical’s Mark Shuttleworth has made Linux attractive to the average user. The installation process is easy, free, and the addition of programs is a breeze with Synaptic. wi-fi support much better in this distro, as is the support of the printer. It has the largest community of Linux.
That the community tends to write programs that solve very specific problems. They are writing programs that meet or exceed closed source, commercially available software. This is the most vital to the continued growth of the Linux operating system.
The security problems for Linux are almost nonexistent at the moment. It is very tight, does not mean you can not do is just that much more profitable to disrupt communication on the Internet than it is to hack a Linux system. In addition, the Linux community will monitor and make you eat your hard disk by removing one of their PC. This may change, and wider adoption, but now I’m not worried about some script kiddie hacking my Windoze box.
If this is true, then what is the way to promote the adoption of Linux?
Sound. Bet you thought I was going to say “command line”. We’ll get to later. Sound Linux is a pain to configure, and it is really horrible, if you want something more than a program that requires audio output. There are a couple of different ways to implement sound in Linux. Some of them are stable and others not. In 50% of cases, the sound of a job application, while another does not. Yesterday, I found a case where a sound server actually had a full race application. Until Linux converts sound into a single architecture, then it will keep the average user of employees. . .
The command line. We knew it was coming, I just gave notice. I like the command line, to some extent. It allows me to instantly kill a program when it freezes, no questions asked. I can modify configuration files without opening a text editor. Just today, an article that appeared on my screen, where the author says you can use Linux without touching the command line. While technically true, that statement is misleading at best. All items Help Forum started with Linux, or are supposed to have opened the command line. If you need to fix something, you use the CL, or not using Linux for a long time.
This is something that people are forced to agree with, unless the Linux kernel and sources of the library is closed. What I hope happens is a line of integrated access commands in different windows manager as the default setting. Intuitive controls (and the ability for users to disable this feature) should play a larger role in the launch for the average user. The final robbery. . .
Developers, developers, developers. So laugh with Steve “MonkeyBoy” Ballmer in an explosion of “irrational exuberance.” leading developers of closed source software gets on board for the full adoption of Linux. While I like the GIMP, and devoted enormous, I miss the amazing ability to batch process and clear interface of Photoshop CS3 (GIMPshop is not necessary). I thought it was. I miss Flash. I do not want dual boot, or using WINE. I want a solution to run natively. This is what is currently missing, the equation of Linux. I want a peanut butter sandwich is not a bologna sandwich. Just because you can eat, not to say that I love you. The common Windows user feels a fear far greater than I can do about it and no waiver programs your family and your operating system without a serious fight.
For each default, Linux has thousands of advantages. Linux will become a major player in the operating system is (and is) the largest bridge in the software platform independent road and cloud computing. Maybe. The question is how soon is true, as the Linux community, stop arguing about which distribution is better, and have a conversation about which way to take for the domain as an operating system.

Despite its drawbacks, newsgroups can be a very effective way of finding information.
Before going to the newsgroups, I recommend the Google news archives (http://groups. Google. Com, once known as DejaNews). This is a huge archive of newsgroup messages and you can search using search tools in Nice. In this way, you can often find the answer to your question without going through tons of garbage, and without exposing the anger after the publication of an issue “and was asked ten times this week.” You may be surprised by the amount of information through the Google archive.
blog, blogger, blogspot, making money with blogs
There are several newsgroups devoted to Linux and seems much better than other newsgroups (maybe they are better policed by the Linux experts?). Here’s a quick list:
news: comp. years. linux. announce (moderated – the recordings are made by a moderator, who examined before publication. Inspect the bottom of each message for more information on how to post.)
news: comp. years. linux. provision
news: comp. years. linux. hardware
news: comp. years. linux. security
news: comp. years. linux. misc (Miscellaneous)
news: comp. years. linux. The defense (Use this for a debate on the pros and cons of Linux and perhaps a comparison of Linux with other operating systems. This is an excellent newsgroup if you want to enter into endless discussions.)
News: alt. linux. sux (you can read and write really all opinions on Linux).
news: comp. years. linux. Networks
news: comp. years. linux. X (X-Windows)
news: comp. years. Unix (general UNIX newsgroup)
Note that there is a newsgroup etiquette (“netiquette”), and runs the risk of rejection and may be exposed to fire if you decide to break it. The main points:
*
Do not post on a topic unrelated to the topic of the newsgroup;
*
Do not post to many newsgroups at the same time (cross-post);
*
Use plain ASCII, do not send attachments, images, HTML, etc;
*
Do not advertise (particularly commercial products);
*
Do not write only CAPS – GETS YOU KILL presented.
*
Use a simple descriptive subject (“HELP” will not work) and briefly explain the problem. Includes distribution and version number, and identify the hardware (USR 56K modem is wrong – list the model number).
To read newsgroups (also called Usenet), you must configure access to a news server. The simplest may be to use Mozilla (“Change” – “Preferences” – “Mail & Newsgroups”) and specifying the news server (your Internet Service Provider, ISP, should have given the server name) and then add the appropriate newsgroup to your list of local “mailboxes.” If you do not know the name of news server, try: “news. My_isp_provider_name. And_domain” or perhaps “only my_isp_provider_name. And_domain.
To read the news, I prefer KNode and (type X in the terminal). Installing and learning newsgroups was certainly worth my effort.
